cob•bler: a mender or maker of shoes and often of other leather goods

There are only a few businesses in downtown Northville that have been around as long as Cobbler's Corner.  Northville Shoe Service was the original name of this shop, with owner Joe Revitzer first hanging out his sign in 1928.  The shop is full of historical detail with vintage shoes and shoe forms on display from the turn of the 20th century with some shoes from Detroit's J. L. Hudson Department Store.  Tony Piccoli, proprietor of Cobbler's Corner, has a workroom boasting both modern machinery and antique Singer sewing machines enabling the finest repairs possible.  Seventy-eight years later Northville and surrounding areas are still receiving the same quality in shoe service as they did in 1928.

As a child Tony Piccoli and his four brothers watched carefully and learned from their parents, Andy and Barbara, the craft of refurbishing fine leathers. Cobbler's Corner, a family-run business, has been in the hands of the Piccoli family since 1971. In 1998 after Tony's father passed away Tony took over the business doing what he loved . . . taking a pair of shoes that have seen better days and returning them to their original condition.

Tony repairs a pair of shoesSo why not just buy a new pair of shoes? Today it may not be so much a necessity to repair rather than to replace shoes as they become worn, but if you own a pair of quality leather shoes it only makes sense. Ladies have you ruined a heel or marred the leather on the toes of your favorite pair of shoes? Tony specializes in re-crafting fine leather shoes, work and western boots. Tony not only replaces soles and heels, but can also refinish the leather by removing the original luster as well as dirt and oils, then re-dyes the leather to look like new.

Other services offered at Cobbler's Corner include:

  • Orthopedic corrections
  • Zipper repair or replacement
  • Most leather repairs including handbags and briefcases
  • Coach handbag re-dying - Special dyes are used in the process, a service not available through Coach retailers
  • Same day service available when possible

Tony holds an available line of shoes that he also offers.Cobbler's Corner is much more than a shoe repair shop. Tony carries a variety of top lines of men's and women's shoes including Minnetonka Moccasins, Sperry Gold Cup, Johnston & Murphy, Hotter, Sandro Moscoloni and Alden. Alden is family-owned since 1884 and is one of the last hand-made shoe manufacturers in the United States. Cobbler's Corner stocks only the most popular sizes, but upon request can special order sizes and colors from the catalog.

Three thousand styles of shoelaces! Whatever style you're looking for . . . it has to be at Cobbler's Corner. Cobbler's Corner also carries the largest selection of shoe and leather care products for miles around including polishes, conditioners, balms, water repellants, saddle soap, Neatsfoot oil for baseball gloves, orthotics and gel inner soles. To keep everything handy pick up a cedar shoe shine box. They can be purchased empty or already stocked with the basic shoe necessities. Makes a great gift! Kick off your shoes and come on in!
